You know that thought "why and the hell do I leave every to the last minute!?!" Well if you don't ...i hate you :-). My Life seems to be so hectic at times that i barely have time to breathe. So , at 10:30 am on the day I am leaving to go to a conference where I have to take Niko to my moms house at 12pm...I'm just starting to pack.
Niko and I head up to Grandmas, he will stay there for twos days while Michael works. We eat lunch together and I head out about 1:30 ,one hour behind scheduled (why should anyone be shocked?).
So, I begin my journey though a land unknown (Georgia) with a life saving Garmin a small suitcase packed with robozos that match my outfits perfectly and little ballet flats that have gold buckles on the toes, very lady like, right? I mean, Hello !?! I will be there with 325 Doulas, that I'm sure be dressed appropriate and will be well educated and, well...perfect ! And then there will be me , tattooed, dyed hair, facial piercings........ TOTALLY inappropriate!! Okay, calm down woman! These are Doulas ! You have to have a warm accepting heart to be a doula. Their not going to be judgmental. Right ? Even though they are women? So ,this is the beginning of the 5.5 hour freak out through this foreign country called Georgia.
I am driving and realized about two hours in that it would have been smart to have brought something to listen to on the way. I must have hit the scan button about 100 times but all I got was country, country , bad country, old country, new country, gospel, and really staticy NPR.
But it's hard to complain when you are entertained by the beautiful scenery of the many billboards for massage parlors and signs that say " STRIPPERS! DO WE NEED SAY MORE?". I have also discovered that GA loves it nuts. Peanuts ( which are actually is a legume. But, we'll let that slide) Pecans , walnuts and I'm sure there are other various nuts you can purchases on the side of the road or and grungy gas stations. And, lets not forget GA peaches . you got peach billboards , peach street signs , peach restaurants , you can get canned peaches, candied peaches , fresh and pickled peaches the list goes on and on but to come to think of it I never even saw one peach tree . Where the hell are all these peaches coming from?!
I decided that I would check some things outs when I stopped to get some gas. I did the normal things that weary travelers do when they stop . Restroom, coffee, stretch and then I was stopped in my tracks because when you think life can't get any better, God gives you a gift , COCONUT M&M's !!!! I ripped opened the package poured the whole pack into my mouth and swallowed. I would love to tell you how they tasted, but I inhaled them too fast to even had taste them.
Well, I headed up to ATL, Nana town home and the conference. Finally, after 5.5 hours I hit Atlanta. I came around a bend and be came engrossed in terror. SIX LANE HIGHWAY!!! I can't even drive in a two lane highway!!! I thought for sure I was going to crash and die at this point . Which after listing to really bad country that was mixed with Gospel, a numb butt and a cramped leg due to being to cheap to buy a car with cruise control , would have been an end to the torture I was having to endure.
I finally reached Nana's town home , after missing her exit and going passed her road twice. Nana had an art class , so she said That she would leave the key under the flower pot . I got out of my car praying that the feeling in my butt would come back very soon. Pulled my small suite case and stopped in my tracks. Was this a joke ? Nana has like 20 flower pots! So half way through moving all the pots I noticed a man with his tiny toy breed dog has stopped and is attentively staring at me moving all the plants in heavy pots . Looking up , I wave and say "Hi!"and thinking "great! just what i need, to get arrested for breaking in entry . Hoe will I ever explain why i wasn't at the conference?" . He just turned and walked away disapprovingly. So, not finding the key I begin to question if I was at the right house, I was , I double check the address. I sat on the stairs and slowly scanned the surrounding area and soon realized I had missed one. EUREKA!! I had found the key! I got in and ate my , by now soggy taco salad that I had picked up after the second time passing her road.
Nana came home soon after and we chatted. Then it was off to bed . Laying there in a unfamiliar place can feel so awkward. But, I had to pull it together and get some sleep, I was meeting 325 Doulas ,perfect doulas, tomorrow. And boy, I sure missed my good night kiss from my little man.
